Reviews for “Father Unfigured”

Los Angeles Times says:

Readers, what did you think of the show’s first family trip? Creator Liz Tigelaar told me it’s a new feel for the show and one they’re moving toward. I quite liked seeing the family unit bonding over corn dogs and old music, although I did miss Ryan. What did you think of Cate’s dad, who I think made Baze look like Parent of the Year. For all his faults, Baze wants to know his daughter and he’s trying. And what do you think Baze will do about his feelings during next week’s big wedding episode? — Vlada Gelman (Follow my TV musings on Twitter: @stayingin)

The TV Chick says:

The entire show (not just this episode) is about family, but “Father Unfigured” addressed each character’s issues so perfectly. I love that Baze has been stepping up all season and continues to be there for Cate and Lux. If he had left Tahoe like he said he would, it wouldn’t have stayed true to his character and what his character has developed into. I could actually personally relate to Cate’s storyline a bit which made it that much better to watch. Tigelaar and the writers have done such an outstanding job grounding the show. No one on it is perfect but they are all so wonderful in their own ways. I still can’t decide whose team I am on. I think Baze and Cate inevitably are going to get together or realize that they need to be together, at least to find out if it could work. I feel bad for Ryan in this whole mess, since he’s a great guy, but in order for their relationship to move forward, both Cate and Baze have to admit to each other that they love each other. That’s right, I said love. I think their feelings go much deeper than just the desire to have some sort of fling. Lux, Cate, and Baze all want to be a family, and a part of me really wants that to happen. I cannot wait to see what the finale episode brings. I also can’t wait to see season two. Yeah, I’m just going to say it now, because I adore the show and I want to see more of it.

Random thoughts:

  • Cate’s mother is played by Cynthia Stevenson, who is not quite old enough to realistically play Shiri Appleby’s mother. They’re 16 years apart so yes, it is biologically feasible, but not likely.
  • The road trip montage was a bit cliche but oh so fun. Not so fun? The BLATANT State Farm product placement. Holy awkward, Batman!
  • What is up with Baze’s Starship obsession? No one likes “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” that much. Not even my mom, and she loves it like nobody’s business.
  • What do you guys think of Baze’s decision to embrace his feelings for Cate? Do you want him to stop Cate and Ryan’s wedding? Or should he just leave it alone?

this was such a great episode. I can really relate to what Kate must have felt when her dad didn’t want her. And I can’t wait to see what will happen between Kate and Baze!! I hope that they keep this show on!! It’s one of the best shows on these days!!
